The curve surface of a plano-convex lens has a focusing effect on light, while the plane has no focusing or defocusing effect. The asymmetry of plano-convex lenses can reduce spherical aberrations in applications where the distance between the image and the object and the lens is not equal. Generally, a parallel light beam (or a distant light source) is incident from a convex surface to minimize the occurrence of spherical aberration, and the light beam emitted from the plane side is collected. Plano-convex lenses are used to apply focus to the optical system and collimate the divergent light beam. When the curve part of the lens faces the object, the maximum clear focus can be achieved. Plano-convex lenses have both a positive focal length and a direction that play a key role in determining image quality.
