Sapphire Ball Lenses
Both sapphire and ruby ball lenses are made from Al203. While their physical and chemical properties are similar, sapphire has superior optical transmission properties. For physical applications, ruby ball lenses are easier to view and handle. Sapphire and ruby ball lenses are well suited to improve signal coupling between optical fibers, transmitters, and detectors. They are also used in applications such as endoscopy, bar code scanning, sensors, etc.
